Massage modalities
Therapeutic massage
The client is undressed to their comfort level. The massage is usually based on Swedish Massage, using a minimum of organic massage oil, but can be combined with other modalities such as Aromatherapy (using essential oils), hot- or cold packs, Polarity, Cranial Sacral work, Core Synchronism, CCT™, Shiatsu and Reflexology, as your therapist addresses your personal goal of wellness. Your therapist will focus on those areas of your body that might need extra attention, such as neck and shoulder or be it lower back or feet. It can be invigorating or calming. Deep or light pressure is applied to the musculoskeletal system for the purpose of muscle relaxation, myofascial release, or increasing local blood flow and lymph flow. Each treatment will be unique each time.
Swedish massage
Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (light touch), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (compression), and vibration. Often “Swedish Gymnastics” are incorporated into the treatment as well. These are assisted movements to stretch and mobilize. Swedish massage/ gymnastics have shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks. The development of Swedish massage in the 18th century is credited to Per Henrik Ling; however Swedish massage is not related to the country of Sweden.
Pregnancy massage
This massage helps reduce swelling, back and neck pain and improve muscle tone! The client lies on her side supported by pillows. The therapist will massage the entire body. A pre-natal massage can decrease mental and physical fatigue, while helping to relieve sciatic nerve pain. It is an effective therapy for helping to calm, and promote overall well-being.
Hot Stone Therapy
Hot Stone Massage is a style of massage therapy in which water-treated stones are placed at specific sites on the client’s body to promote relaxation and to help open up the meridians (energy pathways). Muscles are pretreated with the heated stones to allow the therapist to more easily perform deep tissue manipulations using also warm oil. Among the benefits that can be expected are: Promoting deep muscle and tissue relaxation, alleviation of stress, release of toxins, relief of pain, improvement of circulation and calming of the psyche.
